Meet OUR Team
Our team is made up of high school and university students who are passionate about providing equal rights and opportunities for all. We hope that all women can have access to safe menstruation products, and along the way destigmatize the bias around menstruation.
LUCY YU
co-Founder
Lucy, a first-year student studying at New York University (NYU)’s Stern School of Business and a gender equality advocate, founded GirlsB4Girls after hearing about the harsh stigmas associated with menstruation in the media, at school, and most importantly, while traveling around the world and visiting small towns where she noticed young girls struggling and feeling guilty about their periods. As a result, she wanted to take something so readily available in her community and share it with girls all around the world by designing customized pouches for girls to store their period supplies, as well as teaching girls about menstruation and reducing the stigma associated with it in schools.
Kelly Yu
CO-founder & President
Kelly, a senior at York House, a private girls' school in Vancouver, is the president of GirlsB4Girls. She leads the organization with a genuine passion for improving women’s access to hygiene and sanitation in developing nations. With a background in fine arts and environmental justice, Kelly brings both creativity and strategic thinking to her role, guiding the organization's mission forward. She has formed global partnerships with businesses and organizations, helping to launch innovative projects and increase access to much-needed resources. Kelly’s leadership also extends to her fashion brand, "Azure," where she designed a collection of t-shirts and tote bags to support GirlsB4Girls, with all proceeds going directly to their charity work.

Joanna Luan
VICE PRESIDENT
Hi, my name is Joanna, and I’m beyond excited to join the GirlsB4Girls family. My journey here is close to my heart because it’s driven by a deep passion for women’s empowerment and social justice that’s been with me for as long as I can remember.
Growing up, I was always inspired by the incredible women around me—women who faced challenges with such strength and resilience. Their stories taught me that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a huge difference. When I discovered GirlsB4Girls and learned about the crucial work that they do to fight period poverty in third-world countries, I felt a strong pull to get involved.
Period poverty is a problem that hits close to home for so many girls, and it’s something I genuinely believe this organization can advocate for as well as aid others to resolve this issue. By joining forces, I’m confident GirlsB4Girls can break down the barriers and provide the support that’s so desperately needed, as we have done already.
